Specification

This is the first of the organs visited by the association on its recent "organ crawl" in Leamington Spa.  It speaks from high above the North side of the Choir, and was originally played from a console positioned in the first of the south-facing arches.  At the time of the 1952 rebuild, a mobile console was provided and, at the time of our visit, this was positioned on the Nave side of the Choir screen in the South aisle.  Thus the player hears a well-blended sound from this substantial instrument.

The 1952 rebuild also saw the 3-inch wind pressure raised, to 4-inches for the Great and 4.5-inches for the Swell.  The resulting tone is far from over-bright, and remains typical of the English Romantic school of organ voicing, but the Swell trumpets (16ft, 8ft and 4ft) now make a good impact .  It is interesting to note that no less than three 8ft diapasons are provided on the Great, differing only slightly in power.

In 1993, H N & B provided new electrics, including ten General pistons.  The organ is now in the care of Tarquin Wiggins, formerly of H N & B.
