There’s a super line-up of top class artists guaranteeing a
day of musical excellence, entertainment and education.
After the Welcome and Registration commencing at 9.30am with tea /
coffee, Paul Spicer presents a talk about 40
years of choral conducting intriguingly entitled “Tilting at Windmills”.
Professor David Saint presents the
second morning session with a Master Class on music 1650 – 1800 in the
delightfully situated Chapel of St John the Baptist.
The first session after lunch will be given in Lichfield Cathedral by Mark
Venning, the retiring Director of renowned organ builders Harrison
& Harrison discussing “My Life as an Organ Builder”.
Following this, Philip Scriven,
Organist & Master of the Choristers, will give a Celebrity Recital on the
Cathedral’s stunning Hill organ. After
a refreshment break we are invited to attend Choir Practice, following which we
attend Choral Evensong.
This is an event not to be missed! It
is being hosted by the Lichfield & District Organists’ Association who are
currently enjoying a revival of fortunes under the enthusiastic leadership of
their committee. As their closest
neighbours, it would be really good if we could support them.
The city is conveniently close to the motorway network and, if you wish
to have an enjoyable day out and save on petrol costs, the venues are within
comfortable walking distance from
Lichfield
City
railway station on the
Birmingham
cross city line via New Street Station.
Send the booking form to David
Gumbley whose details are on the form. Do
come along and enjoy a value-for-money day out. As a member of BOA (and
therefore of IAO), the cost to you is £18 or just £10 for students.
John Stormont
BOA Council member.
